Our Yesterday
It all began on October 1, 1960 when Nigeria got independence. Since
that happy day loaded with positive expectations, the high hopes began to crash
in all facets of life – politics, economy, education and the entire social system.
The drivers of our dreams were put against one another and we started a journey
into too many directions that have no end. We became stranded and lost our
focus. Distrust, insincerity, selfishness and desperation drove into our minds
and set us on a bottomless downward slope from which we must return to the
light that will see us through to a brighter future.
Our Today
The journey is long but very slow. It seems like a century because of the weight of failure we
carry, but it’s just half a century. We are endowed with both human and mineral
resources to lead the world, we are blessed with a natural disaster-free
society to strive for greater heights, we are caring and selfless to live as
one, yet the selfish few snatch our dreams from us and continue to drive us
backwards against our wish. So we remain in the shadow of our past rather than
take a giant stride into a bright new beginning that’ll take us to the new age,
which is within our reach only if we light up our fatherland, Nigeria.
Our Tomorrow
It’s only when our hearts become one that we can look at the past in
one spirit, enjoy today with one dream and light up tomorrow for a happy
nation. We are lacking in all areas that require our nation to drive us to the
land of hope, yet we’re rich in the individual abilities to create a leading
nation. So where’s the gap? Where are we going wrong? We must unite our
individual dreams, strive for a life full of hope, good education, politics without tears, social interactions
without limitations, tolerance without blemish and unity without distrust. With
one dream, a dream guarded by the good of all, devoid of insincerity and
back-stabbing, we shall see the light, ignite a brighter beginning in out socio-political
and economic spheres and ultimately lift up Nigeria!
